Import tasks from CSV
Move tasks from a spreadsheet or another tool into an assign2me project with a CSV file, column mapping, a preview and a report of skipped rows.
Moving from a spreadsheet? Save it as a CSV file and import it into a project. You map the columns yourself, see a preview before anything is saved and get a report of the rows that were skipped.
Who can import
An Administrator or the owner of the project you import into. The tasks are created in the project you choose.
Prepare the file
The first row holds the column names. Each next row is one task. For example:
Title,Description,Assignee,Due date,Section
Approve the homepage copy,Client sends final texts,anna@example.com,2026-10-06,Waiting for client
Set up the staging server,,piotr@example.com,2026-10-08,In progress
Send the logo as a vector file,,,2026-10-10,To do
The column names can be anything, in any language: you match them to assign2me fields in the next step.
Map the columns
After you upload the file, assign2me shows its columns. For each one, choose the field it goes to, or skip it:
| Field | What it holds |
|---|---|
| Title | The task title. Required: rows without a title are skipped. |
| Description | The task description. |
| Assignee | The person’s email address. |
| Due date | The due date. |
| Section | The section of the project the task goes to. |
| Status | The task status. |
Check the preview and import
Before anything is saved you see a preview of the tasks as assign2me read them: titles, people, dates and sections. If something looks wrong, go back and fix the mapping or the file. Then confirm the import.
After the import you get a report of the rows that were skipped, and why. Every imported task has an entry in its history with the source “import”, so you can always tell imported tasks from ones created by hand.
Tips
- Save the file as UTF-8. Polish and other accented letters then stay correct. In Excel choose “CSV UTF-8” when saving.
- Keep one date format in the whole file. The year-month-day format (
2026-10-06) is the safest. Check the dates in the preview before you confirm. - People are matched by email. Use the address the person has in assign2me. Invite your team before the import (Getting started), so everyone can be matched. Only active members of the organization can be assigned.
- One file, one project. To split tasks between projects, prepare a separate file for each.
- Try a few rows first. A short test file shows quickly whether the mapping is right.
After the import you can invite your client as a guest and share the tasks that wait on them.
